How's the view from up there?

Inspiration

I am inspired by the world around me, from the intricate details of a flower to the vastness of water stretching to the horizon.

Things will never be as they are just now, which inspires me to document what I see in the moment.

Being a 6'8" Photographer that is a question I get a lot!

My interest in photography started at a young age with my older siblings having a darkroom in our basement. Seeing the strips of film hanging up to dry was not an unusual sight and the futuristic looking equipment and the mad scientist aesthetic from the chemicals was enough to spark my curiosity at a young age.

I can’t really recall a time when I didn’t have a camera of some kind. From simple point and shoot, to Polaroids and 35mm filmcameras, I always had something. Some periods of time they sat and gathered dust and other times they were well used.

It wasn’t something I decided to take more seriously until I was in my forties, my career in tech was losing its appeal and burn out was very present. It was a trip to Europe that brought me back to photography and it was then that I realized that this thing I have always done was something that I needed to nurture and make it my path going forward.

Have you ever felt like you stand out and everyone is looking at you? Wish you could shrink and sneak out of a room? I sure have, being 6’8” I have always stood out. In 4th grade I was the tallest in the school which included my teachers. There was no escaping it, being this tall you get noticed even when you don't want to.

To compound this, I am an introvert. It is often thought that introverts don’t like to be around people and just want to be left alone. This isn’t true, not for me anyway. I have a social battery, and when that battery gets low I need to retreat and recharge it.

This recharging space is the root of where my art originates. I like to explores themes of stillness, solitude, isolation and the road less traveled. It is these themes where I feel most like myself and that I am where I am supposed to be. In sharing my work with you, my hope is that it will allow you to stop, daydream and escape for a moment.
