How I Got Here.

You're on the About page, which means you want the why, not just the what. So let's get into it.

I was at a networking event, the kind where everyone goes around the room, says their name and what they do, and then on to the next person. I said my name, said I was a photographer, expected him to move on the way everyone else had. He didn't. He stayed with me and asked why, why do you do photography.

Nobody else had gotten that question, and I hadn't prepared an answer because there was nothing to prepare for. So I went with the first thing that came to mind, and you know what they say about that. What came out was, I want to help people see themselves differently. I surprised myself saying it, but I haven't been able to shake it since, because it's been the real answer, I just hadn't had to say it out loud before.

Events move fast, no do-overs, no staging, just being close enough when something real happens. Environmental portraits slow that down to one session, someone in their own space, doing their own thing, not posed against a backdrop. Threads slows it down further still, following someone long enough that they forget I'm there at all. Different pace, same thing I'm actually after.

I'm based in Yellow Springs, Ohio, working across Dayton, Greene County, and the Miami Valley.
